How to Grant Meta Business Manager Access to Your Agency
Step-by-step guide to granting your marketing agency access to your Meta Business Manager. Learn the manual process and discover a faster way with Portaal.
Why Agencies Need Meta Business Manager Access
When you hire a marketing agency to manage your Facebook or Instagram advertising, they need access to your Meta Business Manager. This lets them create campaigns, manage audiences, and track performance on your behalf without you sharing your personal login credentials.
Granting access through Meta Business Manager is the secure, recommended way to work with agencies. It gives you full control over what they can see and do, and you can revoke access at any time.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, make sure you have:
- A Meta Business Manager account
- Admin access to the Business Manager
- Your agency's Business Manager ID (a numeric ID they should provide you)
If you don't have a Business Manager account yet, you'll need to create one at business.facebook.com.
Step-by-Step: Granting Agency Access
Step 1: Navigate to Business Settings
- Go to business.facebook.com
- Click the gear icon or go to Business Settings
- You'll see a left sidebar with various sections
Step 2: Add Your Agency as a Partner
- In the left sidebar, click Users then Partners
- Click the blue Add button
- Select Give a partner access to your assets
- Enter your agency's Business Manager ID
- Click Next
Step 3: Assign Assets and Permissions
- Choose which assets to share (Ad Accounts, Pages, Pixels, etc.)
- For each asset, select the permission level:
- Standard access: The agency can view and manage campaigns
- Admin access: Full control including billing and user management
- For most agency relationships, standard access to your Ad Account and Page is sufficient
Step 4: Confirm and Send the Invitation
- Review the permissions you've assigned
- Click Send Request
- Your agency will receive a notification in their Business Manager
- Once they accept, they'll have access to the assets you specified
Step 5: Verify Access Was Granted
- Go back to Partners in Business Settings
- You should see your agency listed with a "Connected" status
- Click on the partner to review or modify their permissions at any time
Common Issues and Troubleshooting
"I can't find the Partners section" — Make sure you have Admin access to your Business Manager. Only admins can manage partner relationships.
"My agency says they didn't receive the request" — Double-check the Business Manager ID. A single digit off will send the request to the wrong business. Ask your agency to verify their ID at Business Settings > Business Info.
"I want to grant access to my Page but it's not listed" — The Page must be claimed by your Business Manager first. Go to Business Settings > Accounts > Pages and add the Page.
"I need to remove agency access later" — Go to Partners, click on the agency, and click Remove. Access is revoked immediately.
